Planning a Kitchen Remodel: A Realistic Timeline

From first sketch to final walkthrough, here's how long a kitchen remodel actually takes — and how to keep it on schedule.

A kitchen remodel is one of the highest-return projects you can do to a home — but it’s also one of the most disruptive. Knowing the timeline up front makes the whole thing far less stressful.

Weeks 1–2: Design and selections

This is where most of the delays happen, so it’s worth slowing down. You’ll finalize the layout, pick cabinets, countertops, tile, and fixtures, and lock the scope. The more decisions you make now, the fewer change orders later.

Weeks 3–4: Permits and ordering

Cabinets are usually the long pole — they can take several weeks to arrive. We order everything before demo starts so your kitchen isn’t sitting torn apart waiting on a box.

Weeks 5–8: The build

Demo, rough plumbing and electrical, drywall, cabinets, countertops (templated after cabinets are in), backsplash, and finishes. A typical kitchen runs four to six weeks of on-site work.

Keeping it on track

The two biggest schedule killers are mid-project design changes and back-ordered materials. Decide early, order early, and you’ll be cooking in your new kitchen on time.
